AFLD v. ITF, Part 4: Roland Garros 2009 (Women)

The 2009 Roland Garros testing for the men is here.

In 2009, the AFLD conducted supplementary testing at Roland Garros. This event is the lone aberration from loser-targeted testing observed at Grand Slam events that I have reviewed between 2006-2009 (the only years of data for which such analysis can be done).

First, the off-day tests:

Last Name    First Name   Nationality  Test date

 Hercog    Polona    SLO    23/05/2009

I didn't find the original article, written for her blog on spanish Eurosport web site.

  2. Very interesting news from WADA which points out the funding issues in this present financial climate.

And WADA's money comes from the IOC and Governments who have balked at spending more money on anti-doping.

    1. I know the article you posted was specifically about funding within WADA (as opposed to ITF), but to the extent there is a funding issue in the arena, wouldn't it be beneficial to encourage the additional testing by the AFLD. I realize there can be concerns with bias, but you've previously spoken about the importance of getting multiple countries working together effectively. With the comment posted in the previous article here, it seems like the ITF is looking to move in the opposite direction in developing an even greater monopoly.

  3. These stats are very interesting - thank you for posting them. Too bad it seems the AFLD has been neutered by WADA. It seems the AFLD was taken off the Tour de France back in 2010 and it looks like they don't do French Open testing either anymore. Am I correct?

    1. It's the ITF that's blocking the AFLD from testing. I don't know if the AFLD has taken it's case to the WADA.

    2. Thank you for the info. I should have known it was the ITF blocking them. The ITF is probably terrified that several big-namers will be exposed as drug cheats.
